Geospatial Gamechanger: Revolutionizing As-Built Data Submittals, Validation, and Direct Loading into Geographic Information Systems
Autodesk – Imagine that CAD files for new construction are pre-validated to contain all the data needed in GIS before submittal to your organization. Further envision the information seamlessly loading to your GIS database in a few minutes. These concepts are driving a revolution in digital submission and capture of new construction project data, and ACDC (As Constructed Design Certification) from Open Spatial makes it possible.
ACDC advances the process of as-built submittals by managing data, validating its quality against organizational and industry standards, and transforming it into geospatial and asset management information that can be automatically loaded into GIS and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) with minimum disruption to current workflow.
ACDC allows uploading of CAD files drawn to your defined standards to the ACDC web portal and validation of drawings against specified GIS data requirements including breaking and snapping of lines and points, and inclusion of attributes matching your domain values on assets. more (pdf)>

Design, Hydraulic Analysis, Modeling of Water Systems
HydrauliCAD – HydrauliCAD ™ is an exceptionally easy to use water pipe design hydraulic analysis software program. It is useful for both pro WaterModelers or any Engineers with a basic AutoCAD fluency. It is used for simulation watermodeling of water pipe networks “Right out of the Box. Water system Design with Epanet hydraulic analysis, in an AutoCAD Municipal water system design program.
The president of HydrauliCAD Software, Ralph Armour, a 30 year water system designer, is the owner and creator of HydrauliCAD water network design software in AutoCAD.
As a user of several water network design software in AutoCAD programs to complete his own work, Ralph had always felt that most Design / Hydraulic Analysis Modeling programs were cumbersome, overpriced and designed to be far more difficult to learn and use than was necessary.
He also felt that they seemed to focus on areas that might be fun for University Profs to get hypothetical with, but did not focus on the areas used daily by most Civil Engineering firms or Municipalities.
The end result is a water network design software in AutoCAD program that is the very best out there in the areas that most water network designers actually use, truly Intuitive and easy to use, while extensive with tools designed specifically for this purpose. more> cadinnovation.com

Autodesk – The integration of WoodEngine inside AutoCAD Architectural allows the user to share the same single 3D model for the different building steps. The complete structure, foundations, walls, floors and roofs can be modified at any time.
The Timber Frame wall wizard works with user defined styles. Intelligent variants in detail design are drag and drop from the tool palette (Extremities, Lintels, Beam Pockets, Openings …). The panels 2D Manufacturing drawings are made quickly and with automatic dimensioning.
The Floor module helps the user to frame floors and their different components (Joists, Decking, Hangers…) according to his personal rules and knowledge. Floors properties can be impacted directly by the walls types (Load bearing, Internal …). more> https://goo.gl/9haafv

Autodesk – Chalkline, Inc. has released the next generation of BIM integrated specifications and documents to the Architectural, Engineering, Construction, and Owner/Developer marketplace. A successful 6 month Beta Program for both Chalkline and VisiSpecsTM users has resulted in real world usage, collaboration with customers, added features, and user experience enhancements.
The AECO market recognizes the need to better integrate and coordinate their design and construction documents. The resulting higher quality and higher profit projects is obvious to those adopting a BIM methodology, yet the solutions available have not met the need for a variety of reasons.
Deployment of the VisiSpecs solutions is also easy and low cost due to the VisiSpecs Hybrid Cloud solution. Corporate accounts, master libraries, projects, models, and other content are all securely managed in the cloud with user access on demand from the office, home, or while traveling without jumping through IT hoops, punching holes in firewalls, setting up VPNs, or waiting for IT admins to download, install, configure, license, and maintain the typical SQL server applications in the marketplace. more> https://goo.gl/iiVoEF

The ASSESS Initiative and the Future of Simulation
By Leonid Korelstein – Everybody familiar with modern engineering and design practice knows that there is a great gap now between CAD and CAE software usage.
While modern CAD (including 3D) software became the everyday tool of millions of engineers and designers, analysis and simulation software (especially advanced versions) still remains an instrument of a limited number of highly specialized experts.
As designed objects have become more and more complex and wide use of analysis and simulation even on preliminary design phase is now a must-have condition for effective design decisions, this gap creates a serious obstacle for effective engineering practice and should be overcome.
The ASSESS vision of simulation’s future isn’t something we need to build from scratch. Many vendors already follow this road map. For example, Autodesk users clearly see the serious efforts the company puts into making Autodesk Simulation software more user-friendly, CAD-integrated and Cloud-aware (Cloud solving option). more> http://goo.gl/TzLcA1

By Al Bredenberg – Starting Oct. 30, Autodesk Inventor subscribers will gain access to three new capabilities: Shape Generator, ForceEffect, and Electromechanical Workflow, all developed to extend 3D mechanical solid modeling capability.
AnyCAD, a new technology from Autodesk that allows engineers to seamlessly introduce and incorporate components from other CAD systems — but retaining the native formats.
One industry where topology optimization is becoming a more pressing need is automotive, with carmakers increasingly focused on lightweighting for vehicle fuel efficiency.
“To achieve that in a CAD system before,” said Derrek Cooper, “you could punch a hole in the part, but that would only be guesswork. With Shape Generator, an algorithm figures out where to remove material. It represents a huge shift in the way people are designing things. Two clicks and you can figure out the optimal shape.” more> http://tinyurl.com/p7ofd5w
