Telstra’s dominance of broadband in rural and regional areas is partly an accident of history and partly its willingness to invest in backhaul fiber technology servicing areas with low populations.

In fact, Telstra chief executive Andy Penn is cementing the company’s broadband position in rural and regional areas with an additional $100 million investment in fiber backhaul. That will assist Telstra in selling ADSL services.
