The global COVID-19 pandemic has lead to a severe drop in air travel, which has impacted carriers’ financial security and ability to purchase aircraft. Mulitmillion dollar aircraft take a significant amount of time to produce, with myriad parts produced around the world. For example, Boeing sources products from more than 12,000 companies in all 50 states and 58 countries around the world.

According to Ziady, at least 10 million jobs are at risk globally due to airline cutbacks.
